LONDON

London is a beguiling and complex city. Founded by the Romans and originally called Londinium, it is a city that brings its fascinating history to life, mixing it with a vibrant culture on the cutting edge of art, music, food and business.

London is vast – encompassing diverse and interesting neighbourhoods, from the pretty environs of Kew village, to the arty street markets of the East End, the Roman history of the City, to the gorgeous churches spread across the capital and the futuristic glass skyscrapers of Canary Wharf.

What stuns me about London is the constant juxtaposition of old and new. Next to an ancient alms house you can find jammed into a sliver of space, a tall glass tower, and then next to that a cool new art gallery in an old warehouse.

Whilst history is important to London, it is also a city that loves change. It celebrates the influences and impact from successive generations of immigrants – from the centuries old bagel shops to the vast Indian street markets, to the vibrant African Caribbean carnivals to the countryside farmers’ markets.

To go on an adventure and create your vision of London is one of the most exciting things you can do.

I want to show you my favourite places in London to shoot. We will spend each day criss-crossing the city taking in all of this contrast and change.

We will be learning on the move as we take in the different neighbourhoods of this diverse city.

I will teach you my methods and techniques on how to capture this city with the spirit of an artist. This workshop is personalised to you and how I can aide you to develop as a photographer/artist – whether you’ve just started taking photos or been enjoying photography for thirty years.

We’ll wander along the Thames, capturing the majestic views of Parliament, St Paul’s and the Tower of London, but I’ll also take you off the beaten path to the little streets of old workmen’s cottages, the alley ways filled with old pubs that served the likes of Samuel Johnson, and the pretty and quiet parks that dot the city with interludes of silence and spots of beauty.

We’ll shoot the ancient squares and street art of the East End, the buzz and decadent ambience of Soho and the painterly-like serene views of London from Primrose Hill.

This will be a workshop where we photograph the many faces of the city – using many different genres of photography.

Street photography at the funky Portobello market, urban landscapes in the vistas all over the city, capturing the luscious greenery of the parks, the mix of grit and splendour in the architecture – grand houses next to street art, old shops next to new businesses.

You will finish this workshop with a new found confidence in both your creative and technical skills – as well as incredible portfolio of images of London.

I lived in London for almost twenty years and in that time I created three photo books about the city, held half a dozen exhibitions and carried out many other projects. I also shot commercial and editorial photography here. It is a city I know, and love, extremely well. Better than anywhere else on earth, I reckon!
